ON HIS WORKS

Dick Davis' paintings range in topic from pure form & color to realistic or humorous portrayals. Most frames are custom made and finished by the artist, in order to create proper environments for the paintings.

Although he now considers color very important in his works,  he didn't always consider it so. Most of his earlier works were in shades of grays and sepias. One such earlier work was purchased by the Cuban concert pianist Jorge Bolet.

A friend once asked him just how he managed to create his larger works. Davis was working from a scaffolding at the time, and replied, “I just start at the top and work my way down. I'm too impatient to waste time on sketches."
